Dev Log #1 - Conducting Research for Game Design
For the first few weeks of class, I was tasked to research for a design challenge and write it out in a research report. While the topics I was presented with seemed really interesting to research, I chose to do Social Media and how it becomes an addiction to an individual. I was interested in how it affects them mentally and what are the signs behind it.
To begin my research, I went to the Sheridan Library Services and looked for articles related to social media addictions and how it affects a person. There were many great articles and I carefully chose ones that I felt had crucial information for the topic. I learned about a lot of things when it comes to social media addiction. One topic that I seemed to come across regularly from reading the articles was FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and it's something that is common among people who have an addiction to social media. Lastly, another thing I came across was people with a high level of anxiety turn to social media as social anxiety is something of a problem.
For the upcoming week, I'll be working on an idea to pitch for the class. I currently have an idea for a narrative game, more like an interactive game that educates players on addiction/anxiety and its effects that it has on individuals.
