Dev Log 2 - Pitching a Game
I had the opportunity to pitch my idea to my professor and the rest of my class. I originally had made my pitch to be around 5-6 mins but I was informed that we had 3mins to get your idea out. I had notes on what I wanted to say so I had to speedrun my pitch. I might have talked too fast but Josh understood my idea.
I had the impression that we had to make a serious game based on our research and that's what I pitched. I wanted to make something that educates the players with social media addiction and FOMO and how to handle it in a healthy way. My game was solely based on narrative with minimal mechanics involved.
Beforehand, we formed our groups and we hadn't decided on what we wanted to work on. Last class, we all got together on a call and had each other send the reports that we wrote. We decided to go with Artificial Nightmare as it was a quite interesting idea to do. We all agreed on our assigned roles and spent the entire class doing a rough draft of the GDD.

I know you had the pitch shortened but the theme of social media and FOMO is something that is very prevalent in modern-day social media and is no longer associated with simple business practices, I really would have loved to hear the whole pitch.
I think we were all caught off by the shortened pitch time. Nice that you're taking a more indepth look into FOMO espcially when its such a big issue with the current state of gaming. I think a serious approach was appropriate for your topic as well. Good luck with your game!
Hi, Mikey,
I’m glad you’re doing research on the topic of social media addiction, and the highly social game genre like FOMO. I think your idea of making a serious game is very consistent with your theme. You can use unforgettable storylines or game results to make players aware of the serious problems of this theme. However in the end you decided to focus on the theme of artificial intelligence. But I think your idea of focusing on serious themes is still very suitable for the new themes, especially the current development speed of artificial intelligence and the uncertain future direction.
I'm glad your team was able to agree to group roles, it's always good to be organized. Given the time you had, you did very well in pitching your idea. I would've loved to see the story of your game and how it would serve as education for social media addiction and FOMO.
Hey Mikey
It seems like most of us were kind of caught off guard by the pitch time. I understand what you mean when you had to speed-run the pitch, I had to delete almost a third of my script.
Hi Mikey!
I like the idea of framing a game around FOMO and social media. Getting a game like that made and then popular enough online to be streamed would be a hilarious situation (not viable at all, but the irony of that is amusing to me lol.)
I hope Artificial Nightmare is a fun project to work on. Your teams got a stacked set of narrative designers (based on the spreadsheets we went over in class) so I'm excited to see how the story aspects of the game turn out once you all start working on it!
I am looking forward to working on this with you!
It sucks that you had much more prepared to talk about in your pitch, I would've liked to hear the entire thing. That said you still conveyed your idea well enough and fast enough that Josh understood, so that's good!
